A Highgate Hill small business has been awarded a major environmental award.
SALA Homes won the ClimateSmart Leadershop at the Environmental Protection Agency Sustainable Industries Award.
Business owner Scott Elsom said it was a genuine surprise when the companys name was announced as the winner, ahead of Rio Tinto Aluminium and Anglo Coal Australia.
'SALA Homes has two employees and a handful of contractors. Winning this award is a huge vote of confidence in our achievements' Mr Elsom said.
'Whilst sustainable housing is not something new, making it affordable for everyday Australians is. Typically, a 'green' house costs substantially more to design and build than a conventional house and is built outside the city'.
His ultimate dream is to see street after street of sustainable houses.
