The grey water diverter is a simple, cost-effective and water saving method of redirecting household waste water from your shower, bath, hand basin or washing machine to your garden instead of into the sewer where it is treated and dispersed either on land or in our water ways. Connects to any 50mm PVC waste pipe. This adapter can be fitted to other size outlets, including steel waste pipes by using the appropriate adapters. Not recommended for toilet and kitchen waste.
Installation Instructions
Select desired position on the waste water pipe (the higher up the better) and cut out a section of pipe 80mm long with a hacksaw. Ensure the pipe is cut square.
Remove rough edges (burrs)
Before gluing into position, check that the unit fits properly by slipping the top of unit up over the top section of the waste pipe then align with the bottom section of pipe and pull down to fit over the waste pipe.
Remove unit and apply PVC solvent cement following manufacturer’s instructions on container. Repeat step 3. Allow 24 hours for cement to dry before using waste water diverter.
Note: This unit can be fitted to other size outlets, including steel waste pipes by using appropriate adapters.
It is recommended that a plumber be consulted if at all unsure regarding the installation of your grey water diverter.
The valve allows 95% of the waste water to be diverted to gardens and lawns and 5% down to the drain to keep drains flushed. The hose outlet is designed to take a 25mm hose. To attach hose, place end of hose in a container of hot water for a few seconds to soften, and then ease hose onto outlet nozzle. Grey water can be directed to the garden via fixed slotted polythene tubes. It may be possible to place tubing throughout garden beds and cover with mulch (keeping in mind this system is gravity fed). Waste water should not be sprayed or misted throughout garden and should not be used for irrigation when nappies are being washed. Persons irrigating with waste water should ensure that the water flow is contained to their property and during heavy rainfall it is recommended that waste water be diverted back to the sewer to avoid surface run off. Waste water should be used immediately and not stored for use at a later time. Always use biodegradable, low phosphorus or phosphorus free detergents.
When using the grey water diverter, ensure that there are no kinks in the hose which may restrict the water flow. The unit can be adjusted by opening the valve slightly to suit varying water pressures. Check and adjust diverter before each use.
The use of this waste water diverter is the responsibility of the user.
